International Business Development

Your domestic market will always have limited growth opportunities for certain products and services in what is also a highly competitive environment.

Doing international business can be daunting at first, but it provides a much larger market for clients to operate in, which naturally leads to better revenue and far greater growth opportunities. Why limit yourself to just the domestic market if you are able to export your product as well?

Old Globe

Although New Zealand has a great reputation globally for manufacturing quality products, we are often not price-competitive due to higher wages being paid here than in the markets we export to, and, of course, the distance to market, as we are very far away! Potential exporters need to be mindful of where they want to operate, how they need to price their product, how to comply with any registration requirements, how to market their products, whom to use as a distributor or agent, which shipping line to use for sea freight, or which airline to use for air freight, what HS code to use for their products, competitive pricing and incoterms, how they will get paid (payment terms), conducting market visits, and offering after-sales service (if required). Selling into export markets requires a lot of homework beforehand, and a number of exporters have burnt their fingers badly by making mistakes or poor choices in all the above areas. Macadamy will guide exporters through the process to streamline exactly what needs to be focused on before embarking on any exporting.

Before exporting anything, it’s critical to understand what is required in the market you’re exporting to, as well as locally within NZ. International business development requires managers, BDMs, and staff to constantly scope for business opportunities and to have an in-depth knowledge of exactly what is required to export their product into specific markets. Macadamy will teach clients where to start with an export opportunity and provide them with a comprehensive overview of all the requirements, exactly what to do and how to execute, and what pitfalls to avoid along the way.

I have decades of hands-on international business development experience across more than 70 countries globally, spanning Australasia, all of Asia, Europe, the Indian subcontinent, Africa, North America, and South America! This vast experience has equipped me with the ability to understand various cultures and nuances, how to scope for and develop export opportunities, what pitfalls to avoid, and how to negotiate the best pricing outcomes for exports. I have also lived and worked in the USA, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand, so my training and consultancy services are based on what actually works in the export markets, not on theoretical mumbo jumbo! There is always some theory involved in all training, but our training and consultancy are predominantly focused on practical, useful information that has been gathered over many decades of working at the coalface of international business development.
